چکیده

The increasing number of clusters built by commercial, o the shelf hardware shows a new trend in scienti c computing. Within this movement is the propagation towards Windows NT (tm) as an operating system on PCs. The UNIX environment and Windows NT di er in terms of administrative issues as well as programming techniques. In this paper, we describe the modi cation of PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) to interoperate with WIN32 (Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95). PVM provides the functionality to accumulate the computing power of an NT cluster environment. Our migration from UNIX to the WIN32 architecture not only shows where porting existing software is easy and where more generic modules have to be designed, but also the limitations. PVM for UNIX and WIN32 environments is freely available at netlib: http://www.netlib.org/pvm3/index.html

Parallel computing using MPI and OpenMP on self-configured platform, UMZHPC.

Parallel computing is a topic of interest for a broad scientific community since it facilitates many time-consuming algorithms in different application domains. In this paper, we introduce a novel platform for parallel computing by using MPI and OpenMP programming languages based on set of networked PCs. UMZHPC is a free Linux-based parallel computing infrastructure that has been developed to cr...

Computing on a Cluster of PCs: Project Overview and Early Experiences

This paper summarizes some projects that deal with parallel computing on clusters of PCs. Although quite different approaches have been chosen, they have in common that they aim at shared data parallelization on the cluster platform. One approach is based on a SCI (Scalable Coherent Interface) network that provides transparent remote memory access. A programming interface as well as first appli...

Performance Monitoring on an HPVM Cluster

Clusters of workstations are becoming popular platforms for parallel computing, but performance on these systems is more complex and harder to predict than on traditional parallel machines. Hence, performance monitoring and analysis is important for understanding application behavior and improving performance. We present a performance monitor for HPVM, a high-performance cluster running Windows...

Cluster Computing Using MPI and Windows NT to Solve the Processing of Remotely Sensed Imagery

The design of e cient distributed applications depends on the coordinate use of di erent API (Application Programming Interface) like MPI and NT API's. In fact, a particular optimized code can be reused in many other applications reducing the cost of its design by means of a set of libraries. Distributed processing is applied in remote sensing in order to reduce spatial or temporal cost using t...
